Collaborative Programs for Immigrant Employment

Intergovernmental Relations Committee

TRIEC's Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) committee brings together representatives from the three levels of government to share information, discuss new strategic interventions, and enhance coordination on the issue of immigrant employment in the Toronto Region.

IGR has focused its work on three main areas.

Inventory of workplace-related programs

A mapping exercise to outline the Toronto Region's employment-related services and programs with a work experience component and analysis of possible gaps to be addressed.

Qualifications "Passport" for skilled immigrants

The investigation of the feasibility, potential effectiveness, and recognition by employers of a standard documentation process including academic, language and competency assessments.

Alternative work experience programs

The exploration of a range of interventions that provide work experience opportunities that would facilitate better integration of skilled immigrants into the labour market.
