Collaborative Programs for Immigrant Employment

CASIP

The Consortium of Agencies Serving Internationally-trained Persons (CASIP) is comprised of eight community-based employment organizations and community colleges that have worked together since 1998 to enhance service delivery to internationally-trained persons in the GTA, thereby maximizing their employment potential and their contribution to Canadian society.

CASIP works closely with TRIEC to coordinate employment services for immigrants across the GTA. We are working together to improve service effectiveness and increase employment opportunities for immigrants through the sharing of best practices, the identification of gaps in service, and through the development of innovative initiatives that make the link between skilled immigrants and GTA employers who are facing shortages in their skilled workforce.

Through partnerships, TRIEC and CASIP have achieved the following:

  • Matched mentors and mentees through The Mentoring Partnership.
  • Promoted Skills International, an online job posting site where companies search profiles to find pre-screened internationally-trained professionals who match their skill requirements.
  • Initiated the Job Developers Network, providing GTA employers with cost-effective and coordinated recruitment and human resources services for hiring skilled immigrants.
  • Delivered a series of sector-specific CASIP Job Fairs, providing employers with a broad introduction to the skills and talents of immigrants across the GTA.

CASIP, along with other service associations such as ONESTEP and OCASI, contributed to the re-design of the training and employment services system in Ontario resulting from the Labour Market Development Agreement that took effect January 1 2007. The leadership work of these groups will advance the opportunities and supports for internationally-trained professionals and trades persons and support the economic and social integration of immigrants to Ontario.
